MANILA, Philippines — The faith-based Ang Kapatiran (The Brotherhood) party said it was humbled by the gesture of six Catholic bishops who have publicly supported their party despite the Catholic Church’s long-standing rule against endorsing candidates.
On Saturday, Bishops Antonio Tobias of Novaliches, Joseph Nacua of Ilagan, Antonio Palang of San Jose De Mindoro and retired Bishop Teodoro Bacani of Navotas joined Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles and Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra in supporting the Ang Kapatiran candidates led by their standard bearer, Olongapo City Councilor John Carlos “JC” De Los Reyes.
“We remain humble with the gestures of the bishops to come out openly for the party's principles and platforms,” the fledgling political party said in a statement.
