Policing the party lists

Posted by akosistella on March 18, 2010

THE original idea of having party list representatives in Congress was to provide representation for “the labor, peasant, urban poor, indigenous cultural communities, women, youth, and such other sectors as may be provided by law, except the religious sector.”

Yet, we have party-lists that are openly supported and funded by religious leaders, political leaders and Mikey Arroyo, since his mother, the President, is running for his congressional seat, he is running, this time as first nominee of AGP (Ang Galing Party), which is supposed to represent the poorer folk such transport drivers and security guards, for starters.
