‘Bangit might keep GMA in power’

Posted by akosistella on March 19, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – Armed Forces chief Gen. Delfin Bangit might be forced to keep President Arroyo in power if a failure of election occurs on May 10 and no president and vice president are proclaimed, a lawmaker said yesterday.

Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez said no one among Mrs. Arroyo’s constitutional successors could then assume the presidency since the terms of Vice President Noli de Castro, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Speaker Prospero Nograles will all end on June 30 together with that of Mrs. Arroyo.

“I think Gen. Bangit and the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1978, of which the President is an adopted member, will prop her up and keep her in power,” he said.
