LP Senate bet Martin Bautista is a rib-tickling, singing doctor

Posted by akosistella on March 22, 2010

MANILA, Philippines–For a nontraditional candidate, he is a throwback to the old style of political campaigning—a one-man song and stand-up comedy act.

“I’m close to the bottom of the surveys but sometimes you just have to give the others leeway before they see the most meteoric rise in Philippine elections,” Liberal Party senatorial candidate Martin Bautista deadpanned before an Inquirer audience on Thursday night.

With his boyish looks and melodious voice, Bautista could be any one of the many movie stars capitalizing on their show biz cachet to seek elective office.

‘Villarroyo signals everywhere’ — LP

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The Liberal Party said more Lakas-Kampi bets are now throwing support for Senator Manuel Villar Jr., a proof that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been secretly supporting his candidacy.

Florencio Abad Jr., LP campaign manager, told reporters here on Sunday these Lakas-Kampi bets from provinces are increasing.

Abad said the Liberal Party has been veering its campaign toward a “mano-a-mano (direct confrontation)” with Villar in the run-up to the May 10 polls.
