‘Brod’ is thicker than water?

In this town where tongues never cease to wag, an interesting sidebar to a recent controversial Supreme Court ruling has surfaced.
The brouhaha over the high tribunal’s decision allowing President Arroyo to appoint the successor to outgoing Chief Justice Reynato Puno Jr. is said to be rooted in a high-profile and influential fraternity’s bid to control the country’s legal system.
As preposterous as that allegation may sound, its proponents offer an interesting scenario. This is how it goes:
According to a recent report by a major daily, “the 9-1 voting of the justices in the petitions of the Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa) and lawyers Arturo de Castro and Estelito Mendoza reflects their choices between Senior Justices Renato Corona and Antonio Carpio, the two frontrunners” for the top SC post.
