NUEVA ECIJA, Philippines — Liberal Party standard-bearer Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and runningmate Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II faced the media on Thursday to show that all was well, contrary to reported cracks within their camp.
Roxas even described his alleged attempt to ease out the people of Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero from Aquino’s campaign team as an “ant turned into a big monster.”
“Ako na mismo ang nagsasabi na absolutely walang problema sa akin na si Senator Chiz ay sumusuporta kay Noynoy. Yan po ang pinakamahalaga na lahat po ng maaring sumuporta kay Senator Noynoy ay hinihikayat natin pong gawin yun. Kahit sino pa po ang kanilang kandidato sa iba pa, (I, myself, am telling you that absolutely, there’s no problem that Senator Chiz is supporting Noynoy. That’s the most important. We encourage everyone to do that even if they support other candidates in other posts),” Roxas said at a joint press conference here.
Noynoy, priest: Psych report fake
MANILA, Philippines – Liberal Party (LP) presidential candidate Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III and a Catholic priest have both denied the authenticity of a document purporting that Aquino suffered from clinical depression in the mid-1990’s.
A document with the header of the Ateneo de Manila University’s Department of Psychology surfaced on the internet on Thursday.
According to the document, Aquino underwent a psychiatric evaluation in 1996, when he was about 36 years old.
The document, supposedly signed by Father Carmelo “Tito” Caluag, assessed Aquino as suffering from major depressive disorder, and recommended continuing therapy.
Aquino said the document was a “work of fiction”.
Caluag, meanwhile, said that the document was fake. Caluag added he is not a psychologist.
Caluag is currently the executive director of ABS-CBN’s 71 Dreams Foundation. (With reports from Ces Oreña Drilon, ABS-CBN News)
