MANILA, Philippines – Twenty-two Canadians, including a member of parliament and representatives from churches, labor unions, academics, and lawyers will be coming to the country to observe the May 10 elections.
“The People’s International Observers Mission PIOM, to take place May 7 to 15, 2010, will monitor and investigate electoral fraud and violence, particularly since this is the first nationwide automated election in the Philippines,” a statement from the mission said.
“The goal is to assure that voters are protected and free to vote according to their conscience and that democratic processes are fully respected,” it added.
