MANILA, Philippines – An Aquino presidency will have the most potent impact on the economy among presidential candidates, according to a soon-to-be former economic adviser of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who has just confirmed his defection to the Liberal Party.
Albay Governor Joey Salceda said he was moving from the Lakas-Kampi-Christian Muslim Democrats to the LP where his classmate at the Ateneo de Manila, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, is standard-bearer.
“Last Monday evening, I accepted the challenge of my Ateneo classmate Noynoy to become the Bicol Regional Chairman of the Liberal Party. My task is to make him win in Bicol on May 10, 2010. The announcement was to be made on April 20. Noynoy, Mar [Senator Manuel Roxas] and the LP leadership have agreed to respect my local amistades and all of my local commitments, whether for mayor, councilor or congressman. The only thing that changed is that I would now campaign for Noynoy for President,” said Salceda in a statement.
