IT IS NOT AS IF THEY WERE A BUNCH OF gadflies; or guns for hire, paid hacks of those opposing the administration. Their professional credentials are of the highest—present or past presidents of organizations like the IT Foundation of the Philippines, the Philippine Computer Society, the IT Association of the Philippines, the Philippine Computer Emergency Response Team, the Philippine Electronics and Telecommunications Federation.
“They” are Maricor Akol, Lito Averia, Beng Coronel and Gus Lagman, experts in their own respective computer fields, whose concerns about what could go wrong with the upcoming elections merit close attention precisely because of their expertise. In a press conference they held earlier this week, and claiming to speak for the IT community in general, they reiterated these concerns, but more than that, they made suggestions and recommendations as to how these concerns could be addressed. In the words of Coronel, they want to help, and they have an answer.
