Lakas to remain dominant party

MANILA, Philippines – Although plagued by defections, the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD remains the dominant political party, according to Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesman James Jimenez.
Jimenez was responding to a pronouncement from Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento that Lakas may lose its dominant party status due to continuing defections.
“The possibility (of being stripped of the status) is there but with the number of elected officials still with the party, Lakas-Kampi remains the dominant party,” Jimenez said at the weekly Balitaan sa Rembrandt news forum.

Precinct-level results available at close of polls, says Comelec
MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections plans to set up an online site where the public can access the consolidated results of the May 10 national elections as soon as they come in after polling ends at 6 p.m., officials said Friday.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said the election body was looking at several options to disseminate official and partial results of the elections. It is the first time in the country’s history that the votes in national elections will be counted and consolidated electronically.
One idea is to attach a page to the election results website that will be created by Smartmatic TIM Corp., the Comelec’s automated elections supplier, Jimenez said.
