MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE) Former administration stalwart Albay Governor Joey Salceda said infighting among his party mates at the Lakas-Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino-Christian Muslim Democrats triggered his decision to leave the party for the Liberal Party of Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

“What really triggered me was…the other Saturday…when suddenly I saw on TV that our two top party officials are quarrelling publicly [and] openly. I am out of it,” Salceda said in a press conference on Monday, apparently referring to the rift between Speaker Prospero Nograles and administration bet Gilbert Teodoro.

MANILA, Philippines – Albay Gov. Joey Salceda formally joined the Liberal Party (LP) on Monday less than a week after declaring that he is leaving the ruling Lakas-Kampi Christian Muslim Democrats political party.

LP president, and vice-presidential candidate Manuel “Mar” Roxas II presided over Salceda’s oath-taking ceremony at the Balay Aquino-Roxas in Cubao, Quezon City.

LP members from Bicol said Salceda’s endorsement of the candidacies of Roxas and LP standard bearer Benigno S. “Noynoy” Aquino III would ensure the victory of the 2 candidates among Bicolano voters on the May 10 elections. Aside from Salceda, the other members of the Bicol bloc are Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo and Camarines Norte Rep. Liwayway Vinsons-Chato.
