Andal Jr. changes mind, says he’s for Noynoy

MANILA, Philippines – In a bizarre twist, a Muslim warlord accused of carrying out the Philippines’ worst political massacre said Tuesday he is endorsing the candidacy of Liberal Party presidential candidate Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Datu Unsay Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. said his family was now backing Aquino less than a week after he told ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol World that he was backing the candidacy of Nacionalista Party presidential bet Manny Villar.

“It was a family decision to support Noynoy Aquino,” he told reporters.

Roxas denies seeking Ampatuan backing

MANILA, Philippines –Senator Manuel “Mar Roxas II is not desperate for the support of the prominent Ampatuan clan for his vice presidential bid, a Liberal Party (LP) official said on Tuesday.

“This is pure foolishness and sheer falsehood. Senator Roxas is not desperate to seek the support of the Ampatuan cheating machinery in Maguindanao,” LP campaign manager Florencio “Butch” Abad said in a statement.

Abad was reacting to a newspaper report quoting a military source that Roxas was among those who visited Andal Ampatuan Sr. to get his support.

Ampatuan Sr. is one of the accused in the November 2009 massacre of 57 people, including 32 journalists in Maguindanao province.

SEN. MAR Roxas is already leading the Vice Presidential race by a hundred thousand miles from his nearest rival. Why would he need the support of the Ampatuans? And now there is an attemp to link even the Liberal Party presidential candidate Sen. Noynoy Aquino to the Ampatuans. Tsk, tsk. Who stands the most gain from this development is obviously the one behind it.
