No Cabinet post for me, Bayani says
Posted by akosistella on April 20, 2010
MANILA, Philippines – Bagumbayan vice presidential bet and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Bayani Fernando said he will not ask for any Cabinet position if he should win on May 10.
Speaking to editors and reporters of The STAR yesterday morning, Fernando said he would not like to be tied down to a Cabinet post because he intends to be the president’s “bastonero” and crack the whip on government officials.
“I will not take any Cabinet position or anything that will consume my time. I want to go around even without any authority. I want to be the bastonero of the president. I will help the president establish doable targets for each agency in the first 100 days of office. This should be done. It should put pressure on everyone,” he said.

Fernando to focus on improving productivity of human resources
MANILA, Philippines – Vice presidential candidate Bayani Fernando of the Bagumbayan political party would focus his efforts on improving productivity of the country’s human resources if he gets elected as the next second highest official of the land.
Fernando, who describes himself as “The Reformer, Performer and Problem Solver,” believes that much of the country’s woes are due to the lack of effective human productivity in the country.
“We will address human resources. That’s where we are failing,” Fernando told editors and reporters of The STAR in a roundtable discussion on his plans for the vice presidency.
