The day after
THERE’S THE RUB By Conrado de Quiros

THE WAY things are going, what will happen during election day is easy to predict. Two things have made it so. One is Joey Salceda defecting to the Aquino camp, which is a bigger endorsement than any TV ad. That was what Manny Villar was trying to achieve before he got bushwhacked by C-5 and fake antecedents: a bandwagon effect, one that would have shown his momentum to be unstoppable. That’s what has just been given to Noynoy Aquino from out of the blue. Lucky, well, feel free to supply the noun. He must really be malakas with the Fellow Upstairs, or someone is interceding for him.

Praying for clean elections
AT LARGE By Rina Jimenez-David

“LET US choose grace and honor!”

This is the appeal of Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas in his letter on the coming elections. Writing to the faithful at large, and to candidates, election officials, campaign workers and voters specifically, Villegas said the May 10 elections “can be an occasion … of hope and a fresh springtime” or it could turn into “a contemptuous day of shame and dishonor.”
