Villar disqualification sought over funds use

The disqualification of Sen. Manny Villar was sought yesterday before the Commission on Elections for allegedly using proceeds from the initial public offerings of his real estate companies to fund his presidential campaign.
Atty. Ernesto Francisco said he was filing the disqualification case as a taxpayer and not as a lawyer of Sen. Jamby Madrigal, who filed a complaint of unethical practice and conflict of interest against Villar in January over the controversial C-5 road extension project where his real estate properties reportedly benefited.
Francisco said Villar told the ABS-CBN News Channel last Friday that some of his campaign war chest came from the proceeds of the “initial public offering” of his Vista Land and Lifescapes Inc.
16 Luzon lawmakers defect to Villar camp
MANILA, Philippines – Sixteen lawmakers from Northern Luzon are defecting to the Nacionalista Party (NP), Nueva Vizcaya Rep. Carlos Padilla told The STAR yesterday.
Padilla said his colleagues in the Northern Luzon Alliance (NLA) made the decision during a meeting in Baguio over the weekend.
“There were 32 of us members of the Northern Luzon Alliance who attended the meeting. Fifteen of them who do not belong to the Nacionalista Party made a commitment to support Senator Villar,” he said.
