BASCO, Batanes, Philippines—Liberal Party presidential candidate Senator Benigno Aquino III said that his rival, Senator Manuel Villar Jr. of the Nacionalista Party, should explain why he failed to declare the P5 billion windfall he earned from the early sale of his and his wife’s stake in the family’s property holding firm, Vista Land Inc.

In an interview with reporters, Aquino said: “Every government official is obliged to file truthfully his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth every year. Any asset that is unexplained is presumed to be ill-gotten.’’

Aquino was referring to Villar’s admission that he and his wife, Las Piñas Representative Cynthia Villar, had profited P5 billion from the sale of their personal stake in VLI which the legislator is reportedly now using to bankroll what is reputed to be the richest campaign in the country’s history.

Pro-life group junks Aquino

CEBU CITY—A pro-life group in the Visayas has junked Liberal Party standard-bearer Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III for supporting the passage of the Reproductive Health (RH) bill and called on pro-life voters to reject him at the polls.

Paul Hubahib, spokesperson and member of the Task Force Family and Life (TFFL)-Visayas core group, said Aquino and most of his senatorial candidates are staunch proponents of the RH bill.

“I don’t care if the Catholic Church will abandon me because of my support for the ‘Reproductive Health’ bill…We must ensure full availability of contraceptives,” Hubahib quoted Aquino as saying.

Noynoy wants Binay, reporter as coin, ring bearers at wedding

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Senator Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III’s wedding plans took another step forward Friday night after he secured a commitment from a newspaper reporter to be his ring-bearer.

Aquino, who tapped Abante Tonite reporter-columnist Renato “Rey” Marfil for the role, also told reporters here he wants Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay to be his coin-bearer.

“Dalawa sila ni Jojo Binay … Pero alam ninyo, ang ring bearer seryoso yan. Nasa edad na tayo. Di ba dapat ang ring bearer… ay may pinagdaanan kayo, may meaning. Pag maasahan mo talaga (Marfil will be the ring bearer and Binay the coin bearer. But this is a serious matter. We are not getting younger. I want my ring bearer to be someone who has been with me through thick and thin, someone I can trust),” he said.

BINAY as coin bearer? You better put those coins under lock and key then. Haha.
