Enrile threatens to file new ethics case vs Villar

SENATE President Juan Ponce Enrile on Monday vowed to file a separate ethics case against Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Sen. Manuel Villar for “improper intervention” to exempt Villar’s realty company Vista Land from the stock market’s lockup rule preventing sale of majority-owned shares soon after its initial public offering in 2007.
“I myself will file the ethics case against Villar,” Enrile told reporters in a news conference at the campaign headquarters of former President Joseph Estrada’s Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino yesterday.
Enrile disputed the claim of Villar’s lawyer that there was “nothing illegal, wrong or irregular” with then-Senate President Villar’s appearance at the June 27, 2007, special board meeting of the Philippine Stock Exchange PSE called to discuss Vista Land’s request for exemption from the lockup period.

• Loren considered Villar ‘rotten’—Senate president
MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Loren Legarda wanted Sen. Manuel Villar ousted from the Senate Presidency because she believed Villar was corrupt and had no leadership, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile said in a news conference on Monday.
Enrile said Legarda only wanted a share of Villar’s billions of pesos in campaign funds when she agreed to be the vice presidential candidate of the Nacionalista Party standard bearer.
“Ang katambal mo mismo para sa bise-presidente, si Loren Legarda, ay sumama lang sa ‘yo dahil kailangan niya ng pondo para sa eleksyon. Siya ang pinakamapilit noon sa akin para alisin ka bilang Senate President (Your running mate, Loren Legarda, agreed to be your vice presidential candidate because she needed funds for her election. But she was the most persistent in having you ousted as Senate president),” Enrile said, addressing Villar.
