An 82-year-old nun who still wants to make a difference is turning out to be the oldest Catholic volunteer in the country’s first national automated elections.
Sister Gertrude Imperial from the Daughters of Charity is the oldest volunteer of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), sorting out election returns for encoding.
“I want a change in the government for the Filipinos to have better lives … that encouraged me to volunteer despite my old age,” Imperial said in an article posted Tuesday on the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines news site.
The nun was assigned to sort out election returns (ERs) for encoding at the PPCRV command center at the Pope Pius XII Center in Manila.
She said she is enjoying her work in helping conduct an unofficial tally of the results of the May 10 elections.
“I am enjoying my work here. It’s also nice to see many young people who also share the same vision of having credible elections,” she said. (GMANews.TV)
