Estrada defends Aquino on Cabinet choice

MANILA, Philippines—The only Philippine president to be ousted and criminally convicted for corruption has plenty of advice for the country’s likely new president, front-runner Sen. Benigno Aquino III.
Deposed President Joseph Estrada, who is still contesting the unofficial results of the presidential race, said there was nothing wrong with Aquino retaining the services of officials serving in President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Cabinet.
“Those are the people he trusts. It’s a matter of trusting the people around you. In my case, when I get my Cabinet members, I see to it that first, their integrity is unquestionable. Competence is No. 2,” said Estrada, who was convicted for plunder but was immediately pardoned by Ms Arroyo.
Ex-Ombudsman Marcelo: I won’t accept post in Aquino admin
Former Ombudsman Simeon Marcelo on Wednesday said he would not to accept any government post that Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, the likely winner in the 2010 presidential elections, may offer him.
Marcelo made the statement after former solicitor-general Frank Chavez alleged that Marcelo is jockeying for a government position in the incoming Aquino administration.
“Hindi siguro kasi yung career ko di ba…I almost worked myself to death (Probably not, because during my career…I almost worked myself to death),” Marcelo said when asked on GMA News’ Unang Hirit whether he would accept a government post if Aquino offers him one.
