Posted by akosistella on June 4, 2010

THE next Congress must move to immediately correct the discovered defects in the May 10 automated elections and put in place the needed reforms way before the next nationwide electoral exercise, according to Sen. Richard Gordon.“There were still loopholes,” admitted Gordon, a chief sponsor of Republic Act 9369, also known as the Amended Automation Election Law. “We need to have adequate preparations. We also need to overhaul our Commission on Elections [Comelec] in terms of putting in more computer-literate individuals.”Appearing at the weekly Kapihan sa Senado media forum, Gordon listed other urgent reforms, including an overhaul of the voters’ registration process. “This must also be automated. This means that we must consider having a national ID system.”
