Noynoy urged: Don’t appoint ‘The Firm’ lawyers to gov’t

Posted by akosistella on May 20, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – The promise of leading presidential candidate Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III of zero tolerance for corruption may not happen if he appoints members of “The Firm” in sensitive positions in government, a veteran lawyer said Thursday.

“Itong government ni President Noynoy Aquino, ito na ang nangyayari, jockeying for positions,” former Solicitor-General Francisco Chavez told ABS-CBN’s Umagang Kay Ganda.

Chavez said that according to some lawyers that he talked to, former Defense Secretary Avelino “Nonong” Cruz Jr. is asking for the Department of Justice, while former Ombudsman Simeon Marcelo is lobbying for a position in the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).

Easter greetings in an open letter to Kumpareng Manny Villar

Posted by akosistella on April 4, 2010

By William M. Esposo

My dear Kumpareng Manny:

First of all, I sincerely wish you the blessings and the emancipating effects of the TRUTH OF EASTER. Easter is the ultimate confirmation of the TRUTH of Jesus Christ — the fulfillment of the prophecy that the Messiah shall rise three days after death.

We miss the essence of Easter if we fail to live in the light of truth. Our nation is in this sorry state because many Filipinos do not know the truth, especially the historical truth. Thus it becomes the hallmark of a great Filipino leader to enlighten his benighted nation, not exploit it.

Because ours is a benighted nation, it all the more makes it a sacred duty for a serious, sincere writer to use his talent to share the truth with the people who are exploited because they do not know the truth.

When Senator Panfilo Lacson prosecuted you in the Senate for alleged DOUBLE INSERTION in the C-5 Road Project, I defended you. I defended you not because we were Kumpadres (Godfathers) for standing as sponsors in the wedding of Paolo and Carmina Saycon — but because I saw that the charges against you were false and baseless. True enough, the Finance Committee headed then by Senator Juan Ponce-Enrile absolved you.

Staffers of Ping, Chiz help in Noynoy’s campaign

Posted by akosistella on February 14, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – The staff of Senators Francis Escudero and Panfilo Lacson are among the various groups working for the campaign of Liberal Party standard- bearer Sen. Benigno Aquino III.

Aquino said he was grateful for all the assistance he was getting but would not want to speak for his co-senators whose staff members were now helping him.

The group PiNoy Lawyers is taking care of the legal aspect of the campaign while the National Institute for Policy Studies, the think tank of the LP, conducts research for the policies Aquino will announce in public.

Lacson was ready to endorse Aquino-Roxas, adviser claims

Posted by akosistella on February 9, 2010

SENATOR Panfilo Lacson was ready to endorse the team of Benigno Aquino III and Manuel Roxas II before he disappeared to escape the arrest order issued against him by a Manila court, according to Lacson’s political adviser Angelito Banayo.

Banayo claimed that Lacson had in fact been planning to call a conference after the reopening of the Senate session on Jan. 18, and in the presence of his supporters from Manila and the provinces, to endorse the Aquino-Roxas ticket.

Lacson flees RP

Posted by akosistella on February 3, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – In a move that critics interpreted as a sign of guilt, Sen. Panfilo Lacson admitted yesterday that he had left the country to escape “harassment” from the Department of Justice (DOJ) amid reports that he would be arrested for the Dacer-Corbito double murder case.

“As I had correctly suspected, the harassment by the DOJ upon the order of Malacañang will never stop. That’s exactly the reason why I left the country. I am a victim of a conspiracy of whispers between Mrs. Arroyo and her stooge in the Department of Justice,” Lacson said in a one-page statement.

Where in the world is Ping Lacson?

Posted by akosistella on February 1, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – Authorities have confirmed that Senator Panfilo Lacson is abroad, as the possibility of his arrest in connection with the Dacer-Corbito double murder case looms.

Lacson has been absent from Senate sessions for 2 weeks.

He is one of the proponents of the ethics case against Senator Manny Villar, but his attendance during the vote on the probe this week is still uncertain.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile said that Lacson wrote him a letter, saying that he cannot attend sessions in the meantime because he is abroad.
